FACE ON FACE ON STAR HOLO: Vincenzo Marsiglia’s mixed reality at Maker-Art 2020

Luca and Katia Tomassini Foundation takes part with the project “FACE ON FACE ON STAR HOLO” by Vincenzo Marsiglia at the 2020 edition of “Maker Art”, a collateral event of Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition, dedicated to the relationship between artistic research and new technologies. This special section of the fair, curated by Valentino Catricalà, will be held entirely digitally on the special online website, from the 10th to the 13th of December.

Curated by Davide Sarchioni and Davide Silvioli, Marsiglia’s project leads the observer into a mixed reality world, where the references of reality are contaminated by shapes and volumes designed by the artist, which scan and process the surrounding space, rendering it stereometric as if it was composed by abstract shapes, graphic motifs and colors. The project is divided into two complementary moments: “Holo Private Immersion” and “Interactive Star App” and is developed in collaboration with TerraMedia, Xonne Mobile Solutions and Ocrasunset. “Holo Private Immersion” is the simulation of a trip made thanks to the innovative technology HoloLens2, tested for the first time in the artistic research field, where the author walks an itinerary among some historical places of the city of Parma, making new experience of them, thanks to technological manipulation. The curators explain how the appearances  of the augmented experience are “originated from a star-shape, the four-pointed star defined as UM, Marsiglia Unity, unity and meter of all things, obsessively repeated and formed to activate new figures and new aesthetic structures”. Thus, “the starry texture is formulated like a skin, covering and mapping every shape and surface intercepted by artist’s eyes and their movement, so every modification happens in the unfolding of the action, giving birth to an unpredictable, iridescent and variegated visual path”. All the video is also amplified thanks to the collaboration with Ocrasunset, that conceived for the project a hypnotic sound able to support this immersive experience. The second part, “Interactive Star App”, concerning a continuation of the previous “A portrait to unite us” (born in the lockdown period), is focused on the manipulation of several portraits through a visual pattern made of shapes and volumes conceived by Vincenzo Marsiglia and developed through the homonymous app. “A viral interactive project with the involvement of the public itself”, as the artist himself defines it, conceived as an interactive virtual platform where the viewers can share their own portrait, that then will be reworked and shared, using social channels. A rich and interesting program of talks, moderated by the two curators an focused on the study of the artist’s work in relation to technological innovation, will mark the days of the fair, with the participation of names such as: Katia Sagrafena, Serena Cassissa, Ennio Bianco, Mario Nardo, Laetitia Florescu, Julie Fazio, Alessio Garbi, Umberto Cabini, Matteo Galbiati, Beatrice Audrito, Marco Santomauro, Chiara Canali e Annalisa Ferraro.
