Through the interpretative process, life enters an exhibition in Bologna with the performance Vera Sonora

Life often forces us to behave in certain ways out of respect for social conventions and customs. The Pirandellian mask that each of us is forced to wear simultaneously limits and blocks the explosive expressive power that each of us holds within. Filippo Janez Bertoni, in collaboration with numerous other artists, draws on this concept to attempt to create, through the medium of the interpretative process, a new, authentic mask that allows all those who wish to wear it to unleash their deepest creative impulses and eliminate inhibitions.

The performance will take place on March 21st from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Bugadara art space, a space born from the need to create an independent and autonomous testing ground capable of fostering mutual influence between artists. In this open and vibrant space, participants will experience Vera Sonora, a collective, multifaceted and generative event that, through an interpretative process, aims to freely and authentically express the personal impressions of those participating. Beginning with a reading of Mirko Maratona’s text “Solitudinari”, a series of actions will begin, aimed at visually conveying the impression it evokes. In a darkened setting, Francesco Bedeschi’s voice merges with the projection of the work Video telefonico 2026, created by Romeo Romano and Filippo Janez Bertoni himself based on the impression the text had on them. Simultaneously, artist Aleksandr Vladimirovich Nuss, observing the work, will attempt to interpret it by projecting printed, reworked and abraded acetates onto an overhead projector.

This will then be projected onto the same wall in real time, creating a superposition that will be joined by artist Luisa Majia Severino, who will participate in the process by drawing analogically on the surface. The whole thing will be encompassed by the sounds of artists Agnese Mussari and Daniele Cassarini, who, through harp and acoustic guitar, will create an auditory impression, interpreting the texts that inspired it all. The incredible layering of elements present in the exhibition will be repeated twice. Between the two happenings, curator Letizia Cigoli will give a brief presentation outlining the poetics of the performance. Following the first two experiments, another will follow, which, in a different way, will also focus on the representation of the interpretive process (not of read texts, but of acoustic elements produced live). In this case, Kollettiva tra stanze (kats) will propose a collective design action, engaging the audience.

Although Vera Sonora is designed to implement, through a layered series of actions, a constant and generative interpretive process, it is not simply a performance aimed at implementing a technical procedure. On the contrary, the most intimate and profound nature of this event is that of being a platform for encounter. In a space where inhibitions fall away and people’s souls are freed from social constraints, through complete abandonment to creation and listening to the reality created within this generative space, a fusion of personalities, thoughts and impulses is created.

The happening is also open to the public; interpretation of the texts and sounds is open to anyone who wishes to join in the creation, since the goal is precisely to extend the mask to all who wish to wear it. The resulting work is therefore open to anyone who initiates an interpretative process. The interconnection of various readings expands to the point of uniting even the most diverse interpretations of the performance. Filippo Janez Bertoni himself believes that life itself can enter into the process. “Even the article about this performance is part of the interconnection of interpretations and therefore effectively part of the work”.
