Il programma di esposizioni Kosmos, curato da Riccardo Lisi alla Serene Gallery – a Lugano davanti a Parco Ciani – giunge alla terza tappa, intitolata Pro e contro Prometeo. Si tratta di nuovo di una doppia personale, in questo caso di due artisti italiani, ma di generazioni e carriere ben differenti: Stefano Cagol e Irene Tabanelli. Infatti, mentre Stefano Cagol (1969) ha grande esperienza e ampissimo curriculum, con anche partecipazioni alle principali kermesse – come a ben tre delle ultime edizioni della Biennale d’Arte di Venezia – Irene Tabanelli (2003) è nella parte iniziale di una carriera che si prospetta promettente.

Ciò che li unisce, oltre al legame col Trentino, è la pratica performativa, impiegata per produrre opere d’arte. Nel caso di Cagol le performance – realizzate in luoghi sperduti e speciali, come nel Kirghizistan o in Groenlandia, create in totale solitudine, dove le cattura attraverso l’uso di treppiedi e droni che lui stesso controlla – sono quindi spesso l’oggetto delle sue opere prodotte in foto e video.

Invece Irene Tabanelli usa la performance, in ambienti naturali e in spazi d’arte, come momento per la creazione di dipinti su tela e tecniche miste, con esiti che ricordano l’espressionismo astratto, in forme attuali. Per comprendere il lavoro di quest’artista, è necessario sapere che è cresciuta sulla montagna modenese e si è formata in Val di Fassa, tra le Dolomiti, maturando un rapporto forte con la natura e la comunità locale.
La pulsione all’azione è dunque parte importante della loro ricerca artistica, rendendoli emuli del Prometeo che rubò il fuoco e lo diede agli uomini, e la pulsione creativa sembra bruciare dentro Irene Tabanelli, come sovente negli artisti più giovani.

Il lavoro di Cagol è da anni focalizzato su fenomeni massivi, iperoggetti come la crisi climatica, e l’attenzione alle questioni ambientali lo rende artista assai attuale e necessario per conoscere e capire le emergenze del nostro pianeta. Un pianeta troppo antropizzato, e dunque l’agire umano viene nelle sue azioni apertamente messo in discussione, con un evidente cortocircuito tra mezzi e fini.

Da qui discende il titolo della mostra: Pro e contro Prometeo.

La logica del programma Kosmos, curato da Riccardo Lisi, intende creare dialoghi tra approcci all’arte e pubblici ben differenti, per esempio presentando nella stessa esposizione artisti lontani per tecniche ed età.

Il vernissage si svolgerà giovedì 25 settembre dalle ore 18, con alle 19 la performance di Irene Tabanelli.
L’esposizione durerà sino a sabato 15 novembre, aperta dal giovedì al sabato, dalle ore 11 alle 18.

Stefano Cagol e Irene Tabanelli, Kosmos #3. Pro e contro Prometeo alla Serene Gallery di Lugano, Svizzera

The Kosmos exhibition program, curated by Riccardo Lisi at the Serene Gallery in Lugano, opposite Parco Ciani, reaches its third stage, entitled Pro e contro Prometeo (Pros and Cons of Prometheus). Once again, it is a double solo exhibition, in this case featuring two Italian artists from very different generations and with very different careers: Stefano Cagol and Irene Tabanelli.

While Stefano Cagol (1969) has extensive experience and an impressive resume, including participation in major events such as three of the latest editions of the Venice Art Biennale, Irene Tabanelli (2003) is at the beginning of a promising career.

What unites them, in addition to their connection with Trentino, is the use of performance art to produce works of art. In Cagol’s case, his performances—carried out in remote and special places, such as Kyrgyzstan or Greenland, created in total solitude, where he captures them using tripods and drones that he controls himself—are therefore often the subject of his works produced in photos and videos.

Irene Tabanelli, on the other hand, uses performance, in natural environments and art spaces, as a moment for the creation of paintings on canvas and mixed media, with results reminiscent of abstract expressionism in contemporary forms. To understand this artist’s work, it is necessary to know that she grew up in the mountains of Modena and trained in Val di Fassa, in the Dolomites, developing a strong relationship with nature and the local community.

This is where the title of the exhibition comes from: Pros and Cons of Prometheus.
The logic behind the Kosmos program, curated by Riccardo Lisi, is to create dialogues between very different approaches to art and audiences, for example by presenting artists who are distant in terms of technique and age in the same exhibition.
The vernissage will take place on Thursday, September 25, starting at 6 p.m., with a performance by Irene Tabanelli at 7 p.m.
The exhibition will run until Saturday, November 15, open Thursday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
